Estimator (Earthwork/Underground)

Certis Solutions is seeking an Estimator to help launch and grow a new service line focused on earthwork, grading, and underground construction. As part of a well-established construction firm with a long-standing reputation in structural concrete, you’ll be at the forefront of expanding operations into sitework and excavation. This is an exciting opportunity to build something from the ground up, leveraging brand new equipment and a strong support team.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed estimates for earthwork, grading, demolition, and underground utility projects (budgets from $50K–$3M)
  • Review project plans, specs, and proposals to develop comprehensive cost estimates
  • Collaborate with project managers and field staff to ensure accurate and competitive bids
  • Analyze project risks, scope, and scheduling impacts
  • Utilize estimating software (Agtek, HCSS, or similar) to generate takeoffs and quantities
  • Participate in bid reviews and presentations with company leadership
  • Coordinate with union crews and subcontractors to gather pricing and ensure project feasibility
  • Stay current with market trends, labor rates, and material costs to maintain competitive estimates

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an Estimator for heavy civil, grading, or underground projects
  • Knowledge of earthwork, grading, excavation, and underground construction practices
  • Familiarity with Agtek (or similar) for takeoffs and quantity calculations
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with internal and external partners
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to visit project sites as needed

Preferences:

  • Previous experience with demolition or environmental sitework is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and build out new processes in a growing division
  • Experience estimating union projects is helpful but not required

Salary Range: $100,000 – 120,000/year

Estimator

Certis Solutions is looking for an Estimator/ Project Manager for a general engineering contractor that constructs civil construction projects for local, state and federal agencies. 

Responsibilities:

· Procure contracts for civil construction projects.

· Search public agency websites for projects advertised to bid.

· Obtain and review bid documents to develop take-offs and a thorough understanding of the scope of work.

· Solicit and secure quotes from suppliers, subcontractors, and miscellaneous vendors.

· Prepare and submit questions to the owner prior to bid.

· Assemble a complete, detailed estimate.

· Submit bids/proposals.

· Serve as the primary point of contact with the Owner/Agency when awarded a contract.
· Obtain bonds and insurance certificates specified for contract.

· Produce a CPM project schedule.

· Write purchase orders and subcontracts.

· Prepare all submittals required by the contract.

· Coordinate the work details and sequence with field staff.

· Produce itemized monthly pay applications.

· Monitor job costs, scheduled progress.

· Produce RFIs and change orders as needed during construction.

· Administer contract closeout activities.

 

Education/Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in construction management or civil engineering.

· Minimum 5 years of experience in estimating public works projects in addition to minimum 5 years of experience managing public works projects.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe; Estimating software such as Sharpesoft or HCSS; Scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.

Compensation: $130,000-$150,000   
 

Civil Estimator

Certis Solutions is looking for a Civil Estimator to join our team. This role is key in the preconstruction phase, responsible for estimating project costs and preparing bid proposals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil construction, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors.

Must Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Proven experience in civil estimating with a solid understanding of construction costs and processes

  • Proficiency in On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Sage, and other estimating software

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and related documents for cost estimation

  • Perform accurate quantity surveys for sitework, earthwork, and utilities using OST

  • Create precise estimates at schematic, conceptual, and construction document stages
